1.  TMGT 2060 – People, Places and the Toured Landscape

This course encouraged me to look at tourism from a cultural context. By analyzing a number of case studies from around the world, I learned how tourism can create a narrative for a destination that can be used to enrich a community’s ‘sense of place’.  I found it extremely valuable to take a break from prioritizing the financial benefits of a tourism product and to instead look at how it can be used to positively affect a place and the people.

2. SOCI 1210 – Introduction to Sociology II

This second introductory sociology course taught me how to use a sociological analysis to critically examine social stratification and inequality issues in both Canada and around the globe.  The course deepened my knowledge of how significantly class, race, gender, and sexuality affects our societies. By investigating the education, work, politics, media, healthcare, and criminal justice systems of different nations, I am now able to think more critically about our world and form opinions based on exploration and evidence.
